What is Reflexology ?
Reflexology was first practised by the ancient Chinese and Egyptians to promote the body's own healing ability. It is based on the principle that reflexes in the feet and hands correspond with organs, glands and structures within the body.
By applying precise pressure to reflex points in the feet and hands, it is possible to assess and detect blockages and areas of stress. The feet and hands show how the body is adapting to stress and this is indicated by sensitive reflexes and other signs such as callouses and bunions.
This assessment allows the reflexologist to target areas of stress and to design a session of pressure technique application appropriate to provide relaxation specific to the individual. In doing this, it restores equilibrium to the body and allow the energy flow more freely.
Reflexology can be used to treat nearly all ailments and illnesses, as it is gentle and non-invasive, but the greatest benefit that is gained from a reflexology treatment is relaxation. During this period of relaxation the client's own self healing mechanism is kick started into action and as a result, maintains a natural feeling of wellbeing and optimum good health.
